The Best of Wodehouse

P.G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) was perhaps the most widely acclaimed British humorist of the twentieth century. Throughout his career, he brilliantly examined the complex and idiosyncratic nature of English upper-crust society with hilarious insight and wit. The works in this volume provide a wonderful introduction to Wodehouse’s work and his unique talent for joining fantastic plots with authentic emotion.

In The Code of the Woosters, Wodehouse’s most famous duo, Bertie Wooster and his unflappable valet Jeeves, risks all to steal a cream jug. Uncle Fred in the Springtime, part of the famous Blandings Castle series, follows Uncle Fred as he attempts to ruin the Duke of Blandings while he is preoccupied with his favorite pig. Fourteen stories feature some of Wodehouse’s most memorable characters, and three autobiographical pieces provide a revealing look into Wodehouse’s life.

With his gift for hilarity and his ever-human tone, Wodehouse and his work have never felt more lively. With a New Introduction by John Mortimer

An excellent collection of PGW. Particularly if you're looking into Wodehouse for the first time, this will give you a good introduction to many of the classic characters in his stories--Bertie Wooster and Jeeves, Uncle Fred and Pongo, Lord Emsworth, the illustrious members of the Drones Club, and more.

It's also a very handsome volume in itself.

Highly recommended.

Great selection of Wodehouse. Lots of Wooster and Jeeves. Beautifully produced book. Bound well, nice hardback. Looks good on the shelf and looks even better open and in front of a reader. Wodehouse is a must read author and this volume is a terrific introduction.

Excellent collection, good quality paper, binding and sleeve are excellent. Typography is superb. This is the best single volume of Sir Pelham Grenville currently available. Available at a bargain price, go for it! The foreword written by John Mortimer is hilarious; but then, that's quite befitting the tone of the book.

P.S. Mine arrived with an RFID tag, heaven knows what for.

If you love well written English literature and humour to boot: this is a collector's item. Starting from John Mortimer's introduction ("we don't take humour seriously") to the satire and double entendre of Plum himself, this is an anthology of superbly crafted humour. The language is smart, delightful, precisely engineered, and leaves one chuckling as the phrases are re-kindled in the mind. True, one can get rather tired of the English peerage but then that's what happens with heedless inter-breeding. If you are keen on delivering precise well-crafted English, start with PG Wodehouse: my other favourites are William Safire, Arthur Conan Doyle, Dickens, the Bard and of course, Oscar Wilde.

The Author, Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse was born in England. So he is basically an Englishman who practiced most of his work in America. He is the king of humor.
With all the modern star-lights or technology it is quite difficult for one to produce a laugh. But these series of works, will most certainly build one and all to a sound level of humor. The characters portrayed are unique pertaining to upper class of English society. The well crafted humor, the style of the language, the orientation of the books, the scenarios and the plots are all note worthy. After all, laughter of course is the best medicine. The biography and the list of books is already available. Just sharing some thoughts with  people planning to pick up a read. The best pastime, the best fun-time is found here. How many dresses can we don, or how much make-up can we do to make ourselves happy?, the list might be endless. Notice that we do spend hours hunting for the right book to read as we would be have to spend days with it before putting down. Something that would be useful, fruitful and entertaining. As we spend time and money on fancy stuff like clothes, shoes, food and other essentials, one cannot ignore the essence of laughter in our lives. You know what it would be like living life without a smile. These works also depict the commercialism that dominates our minds. It can be observed that people with simplicity mindset do enjoy themselves most.  With a callousness about worldly attention. We see some going through life with a fine spirit, a good heart and maintaining good health. Some aftermaths or side-effects of reading these beautiful, wonderful, God-gifted articles could be :

Love All.
Interest in pets.
Humor in Style.
Acceptability.
Celebration of life.
Creating joy.

Those who want a fling away from the noise of everyday life. Sir has written more than 90 novels. He is the king of humor. All the books are a must read. The language is enriched English. For those who seek to even improve their hold of the language, all the books are a must. These books have the ability to entertain people of all age groups. All are real page-turners and masterpieces. The language is fluid and mostly classic. Absolutely, humor at its best. Recommend again as people are on the lookout for nice quality humor. After reading these books, one does find the difference between good and trivially bad humor. Good humor does never hurt anybody. Yes, there are lots of comics, comedy shows, movies and things of that nature. But these books are way up and above the vague, nasty humor that we find common. People make fun of others on the go. But these books can actually elevate our sense of human beings and make people laugh at the right things. In short, humor at its very best.

One thing left - just to pick up and start reading.
